A new direction for Art Matters

After 24 years, we are taking Art Matters in a new direction.  Sunday's broadcast was our final show on WRR.  It's a bittersweet decision for us, because WRR has been our home for 24 years (today marks the beginning of our 25th year), and for me, it's a treasured relationship that goes back to 1986.

But Art Matters is not going away.  We are pursuing several paths to expand the presence of the show.

We are building this web site so that it incorporates present and past shows, extended interviews and photographs.  Over the coming months we will be loading up the site with conversations from our archives of more than 2,600 interviews with people in the arts.  visit this website anytime to get a sense of what is happening now and in our history.

We are donating all our archives from the radio show, plus interviews I did in the late 1980s on classical music and well over a hundred hours of film and video on the arts to a new digital archive at the Dallas Museum of Art.  You can hear DMA director Max Anderson on the archive and the museum's commitment to making this material available to everyone on Sunday's show.  Download the podcast or listen to his extended interview.

And we are pursuing the possibility of a future broadcast home for this show.

It will take time to make these changes, but our aim is to enhance Art Matters' value to the community here and around the world.  Over the coming months we expect our audience to grow.

As we said on our first broadcast on October 23, 1988, the mission of this show is its title: Art Matters.

Many thanks to you all, listen and stay in touch.
